Making almond milk at home is simple and requires just a few ingredients. Here’s how you can do it:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup raw almonds
- 4 cups filtered water (plus more for soaking)
- 1-2 dates or 1 tbsp honey/maple syrup (optional, for sweetness)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
- A pinch of salt
Instructions:
- Soak the Almonds
- Place the almonds in a bowl and cover them with water.
- Let them soak for 8-12 hours (overnight is best). This softens the almonds and makes blending easier.
- Drain and rinse them well.
- Blend
- Add the soaked almonds and 4 cups of fresh filtered water to a blender.
- Blend on high for 1-2 minutes until smooth and creamy.
- Strain the Milk
- Pour the blended mixture through a nut milk bag, cheesecloth, or a fine-mesh strainer into a bowl.
- Squeeze or press to extract as much liquid as possible.
- Flavor (Optional)
- If you like, blend the strained milk with dates, vanilla, or a pinch of salt for extra taste.
- Store
- Pour the almond milk into a glass jar or bottle and refrigerate.
- It stays fresh for 3-5 days. Shake well before using, as natural separation occurs.
Tips:
- Use the leftover almond pulp for baking, smoothies, or oatmeal.
- For a creamier version, use less water (e.g., 3 cups instead of 4).
- Experiment with flavors like cinnamon or cocoa for a unique twist.
